Alphabetical Tweet Reviews (T-V)

Taking of Pelham 123 (2009)- Contrivances on top of contrivances in a stupid thriller mercilessly overdirected by Tony Scott. ** out of 5

Taking Woodstock (2009)- What's so crazy about an astute Ang Lee movie about peace, love and understanding? **** out of 5

Tales from the Script (2010)- Looks like it was edited as part of a junior high media class. Slapdash screenwriting insights. **1/2 out of 5

Taste of Cherry (1997)- Simple & somewhat trite exploration of the value of life. Compelling with a fascinating meta-conclusion ****1/2 of 5

Terminator Salvation (2009)- Badly acted, mindless, visually-dank escapism which lacks the grit and horror of T2. Hilarious cameo tho. ** out of 5

Temple Grandin (2010)- Danes is spectacular in an earnest yet inspirational look at autism & accomplishment. Compelling watch. ****1/2 of 5

Tetro (2009)-Coppola's earned the right to be indulgent--sadly, he's not as clever and interesting as he thinks he is. **1/2 out of 5

That Evening Sun (2009)- Sentimental melodrama suffocates genuine moments of truth and insight. Good perfs. give it a pass. *** out of 5

These Amazing Shadows (2011)- Slightly unfocused yet interesting ode to the National Film Registry. ***1/2 out of 5

Thirst (2009)- Scary? No. Creepy? A bit. Consistent tone? No way. Focused narrative? Not really. Visually breathtaking? Absolutely. ***1/2 of 5

This Gun for Hire (1942)- Alan Ladd is a revelation, but plot requires more than suspension... slaughter of disbelief. **1/2 out of 5

This Is It (2009)- Imagine the greatest concert in history performed at 85% (b/c of rehearsal footage). Very entertaining if not a bit sad. ****/5

Three Colors: Blue (1993)- A visual and directorial triumph even though its narrative suffers from overreaching ambition. **** out of 5

Throne of Blood (2009)- Kurosawa's adaptation of Macbeth is one of the best movies I've seen. Isuzu Yamada as Lady=revelation! ***** out of 5

The Times of Harvey Milk (1984)-Sober, powerful doc that tells a transcendent story of justice/injustice. Milk would be proud ***** out of 5

To Be or Not to Be (1942)- Convoluted and contrived, but the comedy is sublime and so is Carole Lombard. **** out of 5

Tokyo Sonata (2009)- Strange and beautiful look at a family/country that's not quite dealing with these difficult times. **** out of 5

Tokyo Story (1953)- On the nose, but w/ help of Ozu's masterful framing, rebuke of society's attitude of elderly is beautiful. ****1/2 of 5

Tony Manero (2009)- political allegory aside, a chilling look at what obsession w/ fame can lead to in the worst possible scenario **** out of 5

Touch of Evil (1958)- Though narratively flawed, Welles delivered a directorial masterpiece. ****1/2 out of 5

The Town (2010)- Affleck's penchant for directing smart though totally predictable mainstream thrillers is fine by me. ***1/2 out of 5

A Town Called Panic (2009)- Plastic barnyard animals holding a mirror up to humanity's destruction. Hilarious yet brutally cynical. ****/5

Toy Story 3 (2010)- Though it relies on too many jokes and sequences from the first two, this is still a wonderful movie! ****1/2 out of 5

Tree of Life (2011)- Imperfect but oh so beautiful. Ambitions blow the mind! ****1/2 of 5

Trouble in Paradise (1932)- Brutally smart and funny farce. Fantastic introduction to Lubitsch's dynamic direction. ***** out of 5

True Grit (1969)- Wayne is just terrific in a wonderfully entertaining formula western. **** out of 5

True Grit (2010)- Solid story told well, acted well and shot well. Sadly, though, this is a huge step down for the Coens. ***1/2 out of 5

The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009)- Dug Weitz's style, but mopey plot is short on action & tall on a romance I don't care about at all **1/2

Tyson (2009)- A great and terrible man who's also surprisingly introspective and articulate. Impeccably well paced doc. **** out of 5

United 93 (2006)-For now, a tough sit, but worth it to see a masterful tribute. In the future a valuable historical document. ***** out of 5

(Untitled) (2009)- Well-acted with some great laughs, but it never really rises above the intellectual-lite that it parodies. *** out of 5

Up in the Air (2009)- Clooney gives best perf of career & one of the best of 2009. Mirror of our times...charming, entertaining and smart! *****/5
