February 22, 200981st Annual Academy Awards- Will Win and Should Win
Tonight’s the big night! I realize that the Oscars begin in just a few hours, but I wanted to get my choices out there of who I think will win just in case I get everything right! The size of my ego tomorrow will be in direct proportion to the number of predictions I get correct.

Other than a few categories, including Best Picture, I think the Academy will give most of their Oscars to the right films! I believe that The Curious Case of Benjamin’s Butt deserves a couple of technical awards, but I’m thrilled that, even though it’s nominated for 13 awards, it will probably take home three or less.
I’ll post the winners tomorrow. Enjoy the show!

Encounters At The End Of The World better than Man On Wire? Gimme a break. Encounters is mediocre at best and Man On Wire is incredible.
Shame, Mr. Dunn.
Just slightly... I loved both films but the dude in Man on Wire got on my nerves a bit and that scene with the groupie after he gets out of jail was kind of stupid. Encounters wasn't perfect either, but I couldn't help but fall in love with Werner Herzog's voice saying, "I'm not out to make a movie about fluffy penguins!"
Haha, Petit was a little ego centered but the filmmaking was inexcusably gr8. Except the bits in Encounters w the penguins was the best part!!! I just thought it was unfocused and wandering.
Encounters is unfocused--that's exactly what's wrong with it. Both are great, flawed films in my opinion.
